Why is it that some groups of people, if they find out about a TV show or movie that is offensive to them or just against their beliefs, seek to take the show off the air with no thought to people who actually might appreciate the show instead of just tuning away from the show or going and doing another activity?
I think it's a particular type of personality, the australian term for it is "Wouser", pronounced Wouzer. Isn't it a wonderful word? It refers to the sort of person who lives in perpetual fear that somehow, somewhere, someone is having fun! In my head this encompasses the sort of moral highground types who feel the need to impose their personal ethics on everyone around them. Whether it's pointing out to Mrs next door that she's not bringing up her kids right, or banning all that sex/drugs/action/general entertainment on TV, or sensoring everything on the radios, or getting stricter curfews in area X because good law abiding folk should be free from (insert social disturbance of your choice). They say phrases like "core values", until you want to ban it from the english language, and tend to use words like "family" and "christian" in a way that makes most family types and christians cringe in embarrassment. I realise this hasn't actually answered the Why, question, but I suspect the point of the topic was to let us rant.
because some people don't take others in to acount.
as long as they are happy then stuff the rest
Yeah, I think people who want to cancel a show altogether are mostly the ones who think that they're way of thinking is the only right way. I can understand that if someone doesn't like something, they just don't tune into it or buy it, but actively wanting to take the show off the air isn't fair to those who like the program. Anyways, if they don't watch it, isn't that less support the show would be getting anyway? So if enough people didn't watch a show, it would probably be taken off the air because of that. So those people's time would better be spent doing other things that they do like, instead of wasting it on pushing to get rid of a show.
I guess I really don't have anything new to add to this discussion. I agree that there are people who just seem to thing their way of thinking is the "right" way and they believe they are doing a great service to others by writing and trying to get these dhows taken off. These people are extremely self-centered and probably somewhat dillusional.
